Syracuse University Athletics Program
Since July 2013, the Syracuse Orange have been a part of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Previously, they were among the founding members of the Big East conference that began play in 1979. In their time with the ACC, the basketball team has engaged in rivalries with national powerhouses such as Duke and North Carolina. They made a surprising run to the Final Four in 2016 despite many not believing that the team should have even made the tournament that year. While a member of the Big East, the Orange won the men's basketball national title, the first and only time that the school has done so.
In football, Syracuse has coined the phrase "Orange is the New Fast" under coach Dino Babers. In what was perhaps the team's biggest win in program history, the Orange defeated Clemson 27-24 at the Carrier Dome on Oct. 13, 2017. In addition to games against teams such as Clemson, the Orange routinely play former Big East rivals Miami, Boston College and Pittsburgh. In addition to basketball and football, the Orange are also nationally recognized as one of the best lacrosse programs in the country.
The lacrosse program has won 10 national titles since 1983, which among the most of any school in the country. The lacrosse team was founded in 1916, and it plays its home games at the Carrier Dome as with the football and basketball teams. Throughout its history, Syracuse has had some of the most talented players in college sports such as Paul Gait in lacrosse, Carmelo Anthony in basketball and Donovan McNabb and Marvin Harrison in football.
