Penn State University - "Fight On, State"
Decked out in navy blue and white, the Penn State Nittany Lions roam State College, Pennsylvania. The Nittany Lions are a part of the Big 10 conference and the college hosts a large number of athletic programs within its department. When any person thinks about Penn State sports, the first things that comes to mind is Penn State football. Happy Valley, the State College metro area, plays host to Beaver stadium, where over 106,000 raging Nittany Lion fans gather to watch their team battle their opponents on fall days. Under the infamous coach Joe Paterno, the Penn State football team won national championships in 1982 and 1986. Famous Penn State Nittany Lion football alumni are NaVorro Bowman, Robbie Gould, Tamba Hali, Sean Lee, Paul Posluszny, Cameron Wake, LaVar Arrington, Matt Bahr, Todd Blackledge, Ki-Jana Carter, Kerry Collins, Bobby Engram, Jack Ham, Franco Harris, Mike Munchak, Marco Rivera and Steve Wisniewski.
Penn State is also highly regarded for its men’s wrestling teams. Since 2011, the team has won six of the last seven national championships. In that same time span, the Nittany Lions have posted 16 individual national champions in their weight classes, making Penn State the top wrestling school in the country.
Coming out to their well-known fight song "Fight On, State", the Penn State Nittany Lions fan base is well-known for its white out tradition, where Beaver stadium is filled wall to wall with the fans wearing white, resembling a winter blizzard swarming over the stadium. The other cool ritual of a home football game in Happy Valley is the arrival of the Nittany Lion to Beaver Stadium in blue busses. As the busses round the corner to head to the stadium, the on-looking tailgaters light up the air with beeping car horns and shouting to welcome the team as the day’s starting quarterback leads the team off of the bus.
So bust out your navy and blue in support of the Penn State Nittany Lions!
