The University of Colorado Buffaloes Athletics

Founded in 1876, The University of Colorado (CU) is located in scenic Boulder, Colorado, just a short drive from the capital city of Denver. CU is the flagship institution of the state of Colorado's system of higher learning. In addition to the main campus in Boulder, the university also has campus locations in Colorado Springs, Denver, and Aurora. The Aurora campus hosts the prestigious medical school and the University of Colorado Hospital and Colorado Children's Hospital. The university has over 32,000 undergraduate and graduate students studying in its nine colleges and schools. CU is the only school in the Rocky Mountain region that is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU). This designation recognizes schools for their research, innovation, and academic excellence.

The CU athletics teams compete in the 12-member Pacific Coast Conference (PAC-12). Other members of the PAC-12 are Arizona State University, The University of Arizona, Cal-Berkeley, The University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), The University of Southern California (USC), Oregon State University, The University of Oregon, Stanford University, The University of Utah, Washington State University, and The University of Washington. CU fields teams in 17 men's and women's sports and has won 28 national championships including one football title, five men's cross country championships, two women's cross country championships, and 20 combined skiing titles. Most notably, CU is only one of four of the Power 5 schools that do not field a baseball team.

A buffalo was chosen as the school's official mascot after a newspaper contest in 1934. The costumed "Chip" is often seen performing at live events and the live bison Ralphie has a tradition of leading the team out onto the field during home football games. CU's official school colors are black, gold, and silver. The football team competes at the historic Folsom Field, nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, known as the Boulder Flatirons. The basketball teams compete at the Coors Event Center. Both facilities are located on the Boulder campus. Rick George was chosen as the school's Director of Athletics in 2013 following the resignation of Mike Bohn.
