    University of Arkansas Razorbacks

The Arkansas Razorbacks, while clad in their cardinal red and white uniforms, are the pride of Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Razorbacks, also known to local fans of the team as the Hogs, participate in the always competitive Southeastern Conference. The razorback is a common term for a wild breed of pig found in the southern United States and the team is represented by their live mascot Tusk, bearing his long tusks out of his mouth on game day.

In front of over 80,000 screaming Razorback fans at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, it is clear to see that the Arkansas football team is the premier program among fans in the state. Since joining the Southeastern Conference, the Arkansas Razorbacks football team’s main rivals are the Texas A&M Aggies, the LSU Tigers and the Kentucky Wildcats.

The men’s basketball program is also a dedicated program on campus. Playing in Bud Walton Arena in front of over 19,00 fans, the Razorbacks team captured a national championship in 1994 and has made six NCAA Final Fours. But, the most decorated program for the Razorbacks is the men’s track and field team. The indoor program has hoisted a national championship trophy 20 times since 1984 and the outdoor program has hoisted 10 in that same timeframe. The men’s cross country squad isn’t sitting too shabby either with 11 national championships since 1984.

Traditions at Razorback games are like no other. The famous calling of the hogs, where fans shout in a rhythmic pattern “Wooooo, pig, sooie,” can be heard in the stands on game days and at random other spots throughout the state by the crazed fans. The crowd and team gathering to sing “Arkansas Fight,” the school’s fight song, is another great sight to be seen at the games.

The Razorback athletic programs have seen numerous professional athletes come through their programs. In football, some include Steve Atwater, Butch Davis, Knile Davis, Hunter Henry, Jimmy Johnson, Jerry Jones, Darren McFadden, Pat Summerall and Barry Switzer. The baseball program has produced Major League players Dallas Kuechel, Kevin McReynolds and Cliff Lee. Professional golfers John Daly, David Lingmerth and Tag Ridings has played as Razorbacks. Last, the track and field team has helped many athletes to on to participate in the Olympic games.
