Arizona State University is located just outside of the Phoenix metropolitan area in Tempe, Arizona. Their mascot is Sparky the Sun Devil, and he can be found at every major sporting event at the university. "Maroon and Gold" is the title of the school's main fight song. The football team plays all of their home games at Sun Devils Stadium, which can hold just over 56,000 fans. The Sun Devils football team has a long history of winning since its first season in 1897. They have won exactly 600 games and 17 conference titles during their 121 seasons. The Arizona State Sun Devils won two national championships in football after undefeated seasons in 1970 and 1975.
The men's basketball team is also extremely popular at Arizona State University. The basketball team played its first game in 1911, and they have made the NCAA Tournament a total of 14 times. The regularly successful basketball program has never won a national championship, but they did advance to the Elite Eight three times. The most successful athletic program at Arizona State University is the baseball team. The Sun Devils baseball team was founded in 1959, and they have been nationally ranked at some point in every season. A total of 108 former Sun Devils baseball players have gone on to play in the Major Leagues including Barry Bonds, Dustin Pedroia and Reggie Jackson. Only the University of Southern California has created more professional baseball players than Arizona State University. The Sun Devils baseball team has won five national championships, which is the fourth-most in college baseball history.
